Maintenance

Settings screen

On the Settings screen you can change different settings or preferences and perform maintenance tasks.

Backing up a database

To backup the database that is currently open, select Maintenance > Back up database on the Settings screen. The backup file location will be displayed in a dialog box. Backup files are created on the SD card and are encrypted with the current password.

IMPORTANT: On some Android devices (Droid Incredible, Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab), the SD card location is virtualized and files are stored in a partition of the internal storage. Resetting the phone will delete the internal storage and the virtualized SD card location. Hence, it is a good practice to move or copy backup files to an external storage device like a computer hard-disk.

Restoring a backup

To restore a backup, select Maintenance > Restore a backup on the Settings screen. The backup file you select will be restored in the selected database location overwriting/deleting any pre-existing database.

NOTE: You can also restore a backup from the Home screen of B-Folders by selecting Menu > Restore a backup.

IMPORTANT: To open the restored database, you will need the password that was used when the backup file was created.

Changing the password

To change the password that is used to unlock the current database, select Maintenance > Change password on the Settings screen.

IMPORTANT: Retain all old passwords (and the dates they were utilized) in case you have backups created with them.

Moving a database

To move your database from one location to another, you have to create a backup of the database you want to move and then restore that backup to the new location.

NOTE: You would need to move your database to the SD card if you wanted to sync over a USB cable and your database is on the internal storage.

IMPORTANT: Always use the backup-restore process to move or copy a database. Copying or moving the database directly from the file system will adversely affect its sync capability.

Deleting a database

When you need to create a new database in place of the current one or the current database is no longer needed, you must delete the current database. To do that, select Maintenance > Delete database on the Settings screen or select Menu > Delete database on the Home screen of B-Folders.
