Importing from “unsupported” applications
You can import data into B-Folders from a variety of
applications. Since each application has its own ideology, data format
and data representation, B-Folders aims to preserve the semantics of
the original data, but not the representation.
IMPORTANT: Importing data into B-Folders from other applications
creates a lot of new items so syncing hundreds or even thousands of
changes could be quite slow over a network connection. We
recommend syncing imported data over a USB cable which is the fastest
sync method.
In order to successfully import data from "unsupported"
applications, you will need to use Excel to create a spreadsheet to
allow the B-Folders program to match fields.
Importing notes (memos, etc.)
In the case of a file containing only notes, your database can be
exported as a Generic CSV file.
- Select the Options > Import Data menu item.
- Select Generic CSV and press the OK button.
- Select the CSV file and press the Open button.
- You should see an information dialog and the records will be
imported into an Imported Data folder.
Importing data having multiple fields (contacts, passwords,
etc.)
For specialized data (forms having several fields), you will need
to use the B-Folders CSV format. This will require a “middle
step” of creating a “template” with your B-Folders CSV
file that matches the fields in the file you are transferring.
Creating the CSV files to transfer
- Create some sample items (contacts, passwords, etc.) in
B-Folders.
- Export these into a CSV file by selecting Options >
Export Data and open the document in Excel.
- You must manually reformat the CSV or tab delimited file
exported by your application; it must match the B-Folders format in
Excel.
- Once you have changed the fields to be the same, you are ready
to import it into B-Folders.
Importing the CSV file into B-Folders
- Select the Options > Import Data menu item.
- Select B-Folders CSV and press the OK button.
- Select the CSV file and press the Open button.
- You should see an information dialog and the records will be
imported into an Imported Data folder.
